Introduction to Risale-i Nur offers an accessible introduction to the life, thought, and major themes of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (d. 1960), one of the most influential Muslim thinkers of the modern period. Through selected themes from the Risale-i Nur, the course explores questions of human existence, suffering, divine destiny, materialism, prophethood, healing, and the Qur’anic reading of the universe.

Designed especially for readers and researchers who are new to the Risale-i Nur, the course provides a structured foundation for understanding Nursi’s intellectual and spiritual approach while encouraging participants to engage his works more deeply and apply their insights to contemporary questions.

The Enigma of Creation: Consciousness is an interdisciplinary exploration of one of the most fundamental mysteries of human existence: conscious experience. The course examines how we perceive, feel, think, and experience reality from within, bringing revelation and Islamic spirituality into conversation with philosophy, literature, neuroscience, and contemporary philosophy of mind.

The course is grounded primarily in the Qur’an and the perspectives of Al-Ghazālī, Said Nursi, and Fethullah Gülen, whose approaches to the soul and inner life provide the central framework through which other thinkers and traditions are considered. Rather than presenting these perspectives as disconnected theories, the course explores their convergences and differences within a coherent spiritual and intellectual framework.

Teaching is primarily Socratic and dialogical, with active participant engagement throughout each session. Through self-observation, ordinary experience, metaphors, thought experiments, philosophical dialogue, and guided reflection, participants are invited not only to think about consciousness theoretically, but also to attend closely to their own inner experience. Bishop Berkeley’s dialogical method is also used as a way of examining the relationship between the mental and the physical.

This Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) unit focuses on the integration of pastoral theology and psychosocial modalities in ministry with individuals diagnosed with mental illness and their families. Trainees will explore how theological reflection informs pastoral care while incorporating a preferred or integrative psychosocial approach. Emphasis is placed on developing a personal pastoral identity that is both theologically grounded and clinically informed.

Understanding the Self: Islamic Spirituality & Psychology (ʿIlm al-Nafs) is a 7-week reflective course that explores the Islamic understanding of the human self through the concepts of qalb, nafs, rūḥ, and ʿaql. Through structured lessons, guided discussions, reflective practice, weekly quizzes, and a final project, students will examine identity, emotions, inner conflict, purpose, and spiritual growth through both classical Islamic teachings and selected modern psychological perspectives. The course helps students develop a more disciplined, intentional, and faith-grounded approach to understanding themselves and their inner lives.

The Respect Summer Qur’an Program is a joyful and spiritually enriching summer course designed for children to connect with the Qur’an in a meaningful and memorable way. Over two weeks, in small cohorts of 10–24 students, daily in-person sessions run for four hours, combining interactive Qur’an reading, tajweed, and memorization with PowerPoint-enhanced lessons, team projects, and fun quizzes via Kahoot to spark excitement and healthy competition.

With expert teachers leading engaging course presentations, dedicated office hours for personalized support, and plenty of opportunities for student interaction, children will develop love and reverence for the Qur’an while forming positive habits and lifelong friendships rooted in Islamic values. Each day also features outdoor play, snack time, and captivating stories from the life of the Prophet ﷺ, creating a warm, nurturing environment that’s as fun and transformative as it is spiritually uplifting for both kids and parents alike.
