every wheelchair user i know grew up in schools where when there were active shooter drills/situations we had to just sit in the corner w our backs turned and wait. the plans they have for able bodied people don’t work. there’s no plan for my people at all, just crossed fingers.
one of my biggest pet peeves in academia is hearing scholars talk about how they study "inequality" while simultaneously erecting and sustaining social hierarchies
@CoffeeC12638984 It always makes me think of the word “groomed.” Not sexually obviously but in terms of both normalizing very not normal, dehumanizing behavior, and also driving home the message that to be an outlier to that culture is to risk job security in a field with already little of that
Why is all of Psych academia seemingly like this? I swear to god, if clients knew that this is what happens to so many (particularly underrepresented groups) in grad school, they’d understand more why the field is so homogenous and not diverse too. Who can survive this shit???
@CoffeeC12638984 I suspect that after summer 2020 a lot of these programs made more efforts to do “paint by numbers” diversity ie tokenism diversity. But nothing to make these spaces actually survivable by more than just the narrow demographic they were created for. It’s inhumane
@CoffeeC12638984 I resonate with this. There are overlaps with what my program has done to people, too. Not the same stuff but it’s the same smoke and mirrors, no accountability, no transparency or communication, faculty close ranks, flavor of crapademia.
@I_makethemdream @psych_k8 Out
Of a great need
We are all holding hands
And climbing.
Not loving is a letting go.
Listen,
The terrain around here
Is
Far too
Dangerous
For
That.
@I_makethemdream @psych_k8 ugh 😭😍 these are the moments I truly love Twitter!! I love that so much. Not to make this a Therapy poems sub thread (but also def about to do that)—a coworker from a crisis hotline job sent me this poem by Hafez, an entire worldview: “A Great Need”—
@knicolewriting Ive sent this article to clients as well as many friends. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever read, written in a way that’s way more accessible than academic stuff for many people:
“Everything doesn’t happen for a reason” by Tim Lawrence

Last week, I received text messages and photos from border patrol agents showing a stockpile of baby formula. Of course, the White House, CNN, and other liberal outlets claimed that I was lying. So I decided to go down to the border to film what I found. 1/3
