Workers and employers all loved our approach. The resistance is from the licensing boards themselves, who are not too enthusiastic about change nor accountability.

Most baffling, Democrat leadership will not allow the bill to move forward. We have the votes.

This is incredibly important to understand: Republicans and Democrats in our legislature are working together to price us out of our own property.

1) SB 762 was passed in 2021 with bipartisan support. This is the "wildfire mapping" bill that declared nearly all of Oregon's rural properties as fire zones. As a result, no bank in the nation will finance a rural property in Oregon. Only cash buyers. Now, the largest private property owner is a Chinese billionaire. 2) Currently, in Oregon, property taxes can only be increased at the county level, by majority vote of the citizens. HJR 201 is moving fast in the current session and aims to remove the current property tax law to allow the State to increase property taxes without limit. It also removes the current limits in place for property value assessments, which effect the amount of everyone's gross property tax. The combination of these two bills will forever destroy the power of all Oregonians. Property ownership is the foundation of a free society. That foundation is being dissolved right before our very eyes. The transfer of this wealth will go to the Chinese and their interests.

Last session I introduced a bill, the PERS Protection Act, that would have protected public pensions from activist investing that puts public retirees and taxpayers at risk. The progressive majority would not even give it a hearing much less a vote.

Unfortunately, with the blessing of Governor Kotek, Oregon is no longer prioritizing the fiduciary interests of retirees. Instead, they are full steam ahead promoting a misguided climate plan.
