Tearing down dams and restoring rivers … but Tasmania can’t get its head around decommissioning high risk dams. Instead of restoring Lake Pedder, Tas govt wants to spend $100m on dams in spite of inflows decreasing steadily every year. Hydro culture overrides everything.#auspol

One year of Edgar Dam works—one year too long
The millions spent on dams could restore what was lost. Ecosystem restoration doesn't just benefit the wild—it strengthens communities, creates meaningful opportunities, and secures a healthier future for all of us.

The issue lies: while the probability of failure is extremely low, the consequences could be catastrophic. The dams were recklessly built on an active fault line, and works threaten the immense conservation & cultural value of the Tas Wilderness World Heritage Area.
A 4.1 magnitude earthquake with it's epicenter right next to the Edgar & Serpentine Dams was felt this morning.
The consequences of these 2 poorly built dams is increased risk of failure, especially in the event of a large quake. A STRONGER EARTHQUAKE IN THE REGION IS POSSIBLE.
A 4.4 magnitude earthquake at Strathgordon is not funny. Edgar and Scott’s Peak dams are a human constructed danger Tas does not have to have. 4.4 is not insignificant. What if it is a precursor to much stronger 7? Time to decommission the dams. @RestorePedder
September 8 1972, 53 years ago today, Brenda Hean & Max Price took off from Hobart in a
Tiger Moth bound for Canberra to lobby against the
flooding of Lake Pedder. They were never seen again.
We will never forget them or their goal to save Lake
Pedder. It inspires us to this day.
“Rewilding can restore what has been Lost” writes Bob Hodderness-Roddam.
The benefits of ecosystem restoration in the context of agriculture lends lessons to the potential for large-scale ecosystem restoration of Lake Pedder and SW Lutruwita.
@MurrayWatt will you listen?
Australia has still not nominated a flagship project for ecosystem restoration in this UN Decade. Restoring Lake Pedder is perfect if only Albo had political will. #auspol@RestorePedder
PEDDER has been accepted into 5 Int Film Festivals and taken out 2 awards, Best Short Docco & Best Produced Narrative @ Creation Int Film Fest!

We camped out under dark skies, walked amongst ferns & fungi, & Paddled for Pedder!
While we had mostly uninterrupted views, the reminder of Hydro’s & the Government’s extractivism was still there. Scotts Pk Dam & the invasive works at Edgar Dam serving as constant reminders.
Can't join us in southwest lutruwita to paddle? No problem!
