@CapitanoJacko@PalmyrPar Medicine is still apprenticeship style, you just need a shit ton of uni for the base level knowledge prior to being able to learn the rest. Uni doesn’t spit out surgeons, it spits out people with the base training to learn surgery.
@AraAlessia I got to watch a few of these and even got to make the cut once (they wouldn’t let me saw) really fascinating and high stakes procedure
It’s funny when you ask people if they have any medical problems, they say no then you point to the scar like “what’s that then?”
@bumbadum14 I recall getting a HAES lecture in med school then next week we had a surgeon come by and rant on why he hated fat people. Pretty sure we complained about the HAES lecture
@cheskoo@BobHRoss That is straight up untrue, the actual % is under 3.1% and 2/3 of that number include people who were in the last 3 months of their life. The malpractice death rate is nowhere near 33%
@saikenMD Weirdly in my hospital almost none of the ward nurses can venipuncture so the competition for best cannulator is between the anaesthetic reg, ED reg, ICU resi, or ward intern. Made it very annoying overnight when someone was on heparin.
