POLICE IN MPUMALANGA OFFERS R100 000 REWARD FOR CALCUTTA'S MOST WANTED MURDER SUSPECT

Police in Mpumalanga are offering a reward of R100 000 to any person who can assist with information that can lead to the arrest and successful conviction of Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane.

Matsane is suspected to have been allegedly involved in a case where two people were shot and killed in Calcutta Policing Precinct.

The two males were shot and killed at a tavern in Marite, on 15 May 2023.

Meanwhile at this stage Police cannot rule out possibilities of his involvement in other similar cases which are under investigation.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane is requested to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Madala Ndashe on 076 244 8577 or Lieutenant Colonel Freddy Magagula on 082 780 6815.

All information will be treated with confidentiality.

The public is advised not to attempt to apprehend the suspect because as he is considered armed and very dangerous.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, has reassured the public that Police are working hard to deal with crime in the area under Calcutta Policing Precinct, including areas like Mkhuhlu where several murder incidents were recently reported.

[PRETORIA METRO POLICE OFFICIAL IN COURT FOR FRAUD AND MONEY LAUNDERING CASE]

The Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) unit in Polokwane, working with support from other specialised units, arrested a 36-year-old Peter Nonyane (known as “Lamasweet”), a Pretoria Metro Police Department (TMPD) official in connection with a multi-million-rand fraud and money laundering investigation involving the unlawful transfer of funds from a deceased estate.

He was arrested in Pretoria on Friday, 14 August 2026, following the issuance of a warrant of arrest. He is in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 17 August 2026.

According to the investigation, funds amounting to approximately R1 750 000 were allegedly unlawfully withdrawn from the bank account of a deceased estate. A significant portion of these funds was used to purchase a pre-owned Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 valued at R1 650 000 from a dealership in Pretoria. It is alleged that the funds were transferred and utilised in a manner that prejudiced the estate and its lawful beneficiaries.

A second suspect who is alleged to have authorised and effected the transfer of the funds from the estate account, remains at large and is being actively traced by the Hawks.
