Dr. Vishal Chaturvedi wanted to bring the biography of Neem Karoli Baba to the silver screen, so he began his research.

The research started in 2009, and by 2017, the scattered stories began to take a coherent shape. In 2023, the scope of the research was expanded; he read books and traveled to places like Vrindavan, Akbarpur, Lucknow, and Neem Karoli, gathering data through conversations with people.

The script was finalized. Vishal approached OTT platforms to adapt the story into a web series but faced a flat refusal, as OTT platforms were unwilling to invest in a story about a saint.

After the rejection from OTT platforms, Vishal resolved to make the film regardless of the obstacles. He faced financial difficulties and spent years searching for investment; since the film lacked big-name stars, no one was willing to fund it. Eventually, he found people who placed their trust in him.

Vishal wanted an actor for the role of Maharaj-ji who did not have a pre-existing "star image" and whose personal conduct would not compromise the dignity of the character.

Vishal believes that research alone is insufficient for religious content; a filmmaker must also possess reverence and faith in the subject, given the audience's deep spiritual connection to it.

For this reason, he adopted unique criteria for casting. An actor's acting prowess wasn't enough; their behavior and lifestyle were also taken into account to ensure the character's dignity remained intact.

The entire set was kept strictly vegetarian; daily rituals included *Aarti* and the recitation of the *Hanuman Chalisa*.

Then, a real crisis struck during production: the actor originally chosen for the lead role fell ill. Consequently, the film's second assistant director, Shobhinav Satya—who had been handling props—was cast in the lead role.

It was as if Hanuman Baba himself had chosen Shobhinav. For Vishal, the greatest challenge lay in moving beyond the 'miraculous' image of the Baba to focus instead on his *leelas* (divine plays), human emotions, compassion, service, and social transformation. In this regard, Vishal has demonstrated brilliant creativity.

This is precisely why the film is gradually connecting with audiences and maintaining a strong hold at the box office; it has already grossed ₹12 crore.

Vishal plans to present the Baba's biography as a trilogy, meaning two more installments are yet to come. Stories about *Sanatani* saints have rarely been the focus of Indian cinema—or have often been overlooked entirely. Vishal’s initiative will encourage other filmmakers who possess such stories or have conducted the necessary research to bring them to the screen.

*Hanuman Ansh* is a fine, creative biopic that illustrates how society was transformed through the *leelas* of Neem Karoli Baba.
