As someone who works in regulatory compliance, reading such news makes me feel both sad and mad because this is the sort of move that erodes the very purpose of regulatory compliance.

When you see clubs effectively using legal restructuring and “creative” accounting methods to remain within PSR or UEFA FFP thresholds, I feel that
Compliance isn’t failing. It’s being bent systematically, cleverly, and often within the letter of the law but not the spirit of it. This is financial engineering dressed up as compliance, in my opinion.

This also signals that if you’re smart enough, rich enough, and willing to dance close to the line, you can get away with it. And that’s what makes a mockery of the system.

What’s most disheartening, especially from a regulatory lens, is that rules are meant to protect the integrity of sport. But they are now increasingly becoming a puzzle to solve rather than a boundary to respect.
