1980: I'd scraped together enough cash for a second-hand Atari VCS. It was already 3 years old, but thanks to a local rental store I got to play so many classic games on it. Chapter 3 of my tech history. #Atari#RetroComputing

Why were early micros such a luxury in 1980s Britain? A less globalised world, an exchange rate that oddly worked against us, and widespread unemployment. Chapter two of my tech history looks at the money side. #RetroComputing

1977, and something completely new arrived in my life: a video game console. It looks super limited now, but back then a Pong machine at home was a revolution. Chapter 1 of my tech history starts here. #RetroComputing

I'm starting a new channel, and it begins with my own tech history: the consoles I played as a kid in the 70s, the golden age of 8-bit and 16-bit micros, and the computers that led to my career in art and tech. 11 videos, starting now. #RetroComputing

Stop squinting at tiny OLED screens and mashing rotary encoders. In this video, we review Omegaware’s Gotek Touchscreen Interface (GTi), a game-changing Gotek upgrade that adds vibrant box art, carousel scrolling, and instant search to your retro Amiga's floppy setup.

Well, C64 IS something of a time capsule. No 32 colours, or 8 channel sampled music. It WILL be a "period peice", but... thats the whole point. The game will be built WITHIN the constraints of the hardware. However, with 40+ years of coding experience, I assume Michael will add some new "magic", but its a game first and foremost, not a demo.
The creator of The Bard’s Tale is back on the Commodore 64 and he’s finishing a game promised over 40 years ago. In 1983, Michael Cranford released Maze Master on the C64 with a promise of a sequel called Shadow Snare. Instead, he joined Interplay, built the legendary The Bard’s Tale, and left game development behind. Now, four decades later, he’s returned to 6502 assembly language to finally deliver on that missing chapter of CRPG history.

Yes, thats right, Retronaut, one of your favourite retro computing channels is now morphing into @RetronautTech AND @RetronautTech2 . Why? Well, recently I posted a video about a telephone museum in Rio... and the YouTube algorithm took it VERY personally and it super tanked. So I thought... maybe I need a new outlet, for vids which aren't 100% on target for RetronautTech While the main channel (@RetronautTech) stays dedicated to in-depth hardware restorations, spicy retro upgrades, guides and repairs, Retronaut 2 is my new home for everything else. Expect fast-turnaround retro computing news, off-the-cuff thoughts, experimental format tests, retro travel oddities, and casual chats that don't need a month of scriptwriting and multi-camera b-roll.

The MNT ZZ9000 completely blew me away, so I had to try the ZZ9000AX audio expansion card! It promises Paula passthrough, CD Quality audio and direct MP3 decoding via MHI. It all looks amazing, but putting it through its paces revealed a few niggles...

I received an Amiga 3000, what many consider the pinnacle of the legendary Amiga range of computers. It has pretty bad battery damage. But just how bad is it?Just how much work will be required to get this machine back on its little rubber pads.
