🚨 Time's running out. We’re racing to ready our sanctuary and the nearly 500 rescued wild horses in our care before severe weather caused by a potentially historic El Niño storm season. Every gift will be matched dollar for dollar until Oct. 31: https://t.co/uoFnWdGc5g

🧵Wild horses are shown here as they should be. Unfortunately, the Bureau of Land Management has decided to capture and remove from the 36,000-acre range in the days ahead about 40 wild horses from one of the most beloved herds in the West.
Because the BLM apparently plans to focus on removing younger horses, the palomino mare shown in this video is among those likely to be slated for capture. Known as Encore, she is the look-alike daughter of Cloud, the stallion made famous by a series of popular PBS documentaries.

Great news! A record 238 members of the U.S. House of Representatives now support a bill to ban horse slaughter and the export of American #horses for slaughter. Read more / take action: https://t.co/1YTcUJP8j1
The Bureau of Land Management recently announced a $30 M investment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand wild horse fertility control efforts. While this is positive, we will keep pushing for greater action to keep herds on public lands. https://t.co/AUb6UO9SU4
The Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act reached 225 cosponsors on Monday. That’s the most support that anti-slaughter legislation has received since 2020, when the bill amassed 227 cosponsors.

Mamma Mia! Such a diva!
Thank you to our fabulous sanctuary volunteers for all that they do, including giving singing lessons. More rehearsals may be needed.
(With apologies to #ABBA)
America’s wild horses deserve better.

The result: The BLM now spends more than $100 million in taxpayer dollars every year to warehouse captured wild horses and burros. The more expensive off-range holding becomes, the greater the threat to the lives of those animals.
Fertility control is a proven, safe tool that can stabilize herd growth without stopping it. Used correctly and robustly, it can reduce the size and frequency of roundups on the way to replacing them as the agency’s main management tool.
🧵 For decades, the Bureau of Land Management has tried and failed to control herd populations by capturing wild horses, then removing them from public lands. Because BLM chooses not to address reproduction, it soon returns to the same places to remove still more. And on and on.
