In the early 1960s a young Richie Blackmore - well before Deep Purple - was learning his trade as session musician to the legendary Joe Meek. Can you belie ve this is Richie in 1963 on this track by Heinz "The Beating Of My Heart"?

@DeepPurplePod Great song but they lost their soul and swagger with their late 80s FM-friendly makeover and their efforts to "break America". Not that anyone can blame them for trying, after years of playing the Leicester / Birmingham / Shepherds Bush triangle !!
Metallica deserve huge respect but AC/DC are head and shoulders above them when it comes to true rock legends ... and likewise, Brian Johnson is a giant amongst rock singers, but Bon Scott is and will always be THE AC/DC frontman. So "Rock n'Roll Damnation" rather than "Hells Bells" !!!
Greetings Electronic Music Producers - I hope the community won't mind me sharing details of a new, upcoming documentary about the original EMP: #Joemeek. See our page for full details and website link. Would love any questions or feedback!
@Modernist__Life@JoeMeekSociety Obviously, we love this !!! Currently filming our 2025 #joemeek documentary "The Unexpected Return of Mr Meek" - full details via our page
@frooogscream Thanks ! going to go back and listen to that one again very closely. You are so right about his courage and resilience - both about his sexuality and his willingness to drive incredible innovation in what were still very conservative times.
Was the pop revolution of the “Swinging Sixties” really a time of mass sexual liberation? Not for the LGBTQ+ community - still criminalised in most places including the UK!
Joe Meek was an immensely talented and influential music producer in 1960s London. He was also a queer pioneer - gay at a time when it was still illegal, and constantly battling with the repressive attitudes of his “cool” era. ‘The Unexpected Return Of Mr Meek’ is a major new documentary about Joe’s life and legacy.

Completely agree Amy 👍- two completely different guitarists but both legendary in their own right. They did have one thing in common however - their formative years working with our hero #joemeek !! We hope to get into that as part of next year's documentary (see our page for details)
@historyrock_ This is a superb track and we remain convinced there is more than a little Eric Clapton buried in the legendary #joemeek Tea Chest Tapes ....
