Igor Mykhaylovych Lytvynchuk, a tourist from Washington, was filmed throwing a large rock at an endangered Hawaiian monk seal in Lahaina, Maui. A local man confronted him afterward and beat him up.

The incident went viral, and Hawaiʻi State Senator Brenton Awa later gave the local man a letter of recognition for standing up for Hawaiʻi’s wildlife.
