@DrJackHughes Verse 9 was Paul's encouragement to Timothy. If he remained faithful, those who opposed the gospel would live to see those who opposed them defeated. The same is true for us today.

@DrJackHughes Paul was addressing these words to Timothy, prior to 70 AD. They were both living in "the last days" of the old covenant age. Timothy was being warned about a reality he was about to live through. (Please don't ignore the original historical context when interpreting scripture.)
