Presbyterian pastor, biblical languages nerd, chronic pain haver, delighting in geeky things. Use any pronouns for me. I will use only the ones you want for you
When we take communion, we're sharing the table with saints from every time and every place. That means that I also meet myself at every age, in every circumstance. So, I am with the me that feared she would never heal from trauma. I am with me who has found peace. 1/
@HannahntheWolf I don't know your work, but I will say that you deserve to belong to a community that cares about you and listens to your voice. Don't give up seeking!
@bbenzington Thanks - it's been so good to be able to connect with everyone. This is definitely one of those times where being with a group of angry people is healing and hopeful โบ๏ธ
There's nothing wrong with being upfront. The Bible can cause harm and it's our responsibility to discern the right passage for the right moment.

In twilight and marsh, many-colored streaks are content to be. Our categories and insistence are irrelevant where God draws infinite forms. For this, may we be ever thankful.
@johnstitcher@ChurchLead@Presbyterian@smartin_write Being locked in a room for five days intensively studying a passage is not the same as helping a congregant. You can talk with them, pray, point them to other resources, take time between visits to take care of yourself. Academic analysis is not the same as loving presence.
@EdLauber@johnstitcher@ChurchLead@Presbyterian@smartin_write So, pastors are people, too. There is no grace in forcing them to relive trauma when doing so proves nothing. It drives people from ministry - people whose own experiences can help them be loving, understanding, and supportive when actual people need help.
