"My concern is the real risk of direct and indirect pressure on the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people..."
On Friday, MPs will vote on the Assisted Dying Bill in House of Commons.
@bishopSarahM shares her thoughts ahead of the decision.
House of Survivors applauds the Bishop of Newcastle for shining a spotlight on the dysfunctional culture of the hierarchy.
We doubt the presenter has met this kind of candour from any CofE figure

@alicelydiajoy A female ABC is more likely than a Society bishop. But, whether the committee would have the courage to do that is another matter. Any woman who took that job would have a harder job than any ABC before her.
@BishopNewcastle @NclDiocese There is a serious problem in the CofE around power and vulnerability. The patriarchy has still got its teeth on us in the church and it does not like being called out.
I’m appalled by scenes from Sunderland. Make no mistake, if your response to tragedy is to use it to commit violence, to abuse others, attack the Police and damage property you stand for nothing except thuggery. It’s not protest. It’s crime and disorder. You don’t speak for Sunderland. You don’t speak for this region. Those grieving in Southport will take no comfort from this.
Our country is coming to terms with an act so inexplicably vile.
Our thoughts are with the families at the heart of this unimaginable pain.
Let me be clear: the tiny, mindless minority in our society who provoked violent disorder on our streets will be made to face the full force of the law.
@MthrJacquiT Urgh. Unhelpful. I'm the other side of Newcastle 😊. @AllHallowsLeeds would be helpful for Leeds and a safe church. But not sure what's in Hull.
@MthrJacquiT I'm very sorry to hear this. There is an increasing number housed in the northeast due to the low cost of housing. If you find they are coming this way, we can help them get in touch with a church.
@Matthew_G_Watts Contact your gp and ask for an urgent appointment. They may call the crisis team. Don't worry about that - they will get you urgent specialist support.
@constantscholar @Rgt71Robert@churchofengland That is a PhD I would be interested to read. I myself have experienced trauma at the hands of the church institution.
