Reform-led Durham council cut off funding to the annual Pride celebrations.
So trade unions launched a fundraiser to save it, eventually raising more money than was cut.
Which means this year's Pride will be bigger than ever.
In the 1980s, the LGBT+ community raised thousands of pounds to help striking miners and their families.
When we stick up for each other, we can achieve anything.
The only problem I have with Rowan Atkinson as a stand-up comedian is that he’s never done enough of it. And maybe that’s a good thing? After all, one of the reasons Fawlty Towers is so admired (apart from it being incredibly funny) is that they quit while they were ahead. With Rowan, stand-up has always been an occasional thing and he was at his most active in the early to mid 1980’s. When it happened though, you knew it was going to be good.
This routine was actually recorded in 1992 and the entire show was written by Rowan and Richard Curtis. The whole thing’s on YouTube. Just search Rowan Atkinson Live, 1992.
Happy Friday, fellow sinners!

"As churches, we pledge to be relentless advocates for transformative peace. We will continue to pray for the victims of war, to advocate for justice before political leaders, and to serve those affected by conflict through our diaconal ministries. We commit to educating our members on the ethics of peace and challenge the narratives of hate and enmity within our society."
Leaders of four global Christian communions have issued a joint call for renewed efforts towards the ‘gift of peace’ in the face of escalating conflict and violence around the world.
The statement is signed by the Rt Revd Anthony Poggo (Secretary General of the Anglican Communion), The Revd Dr Anne Burghardt (General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation), The Revd Philip Vinod Peacock (General Secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches) and The Revd Dr Reynaldo Ferreira Leão Neto (General Secretary of the World Methodist Council).

"On the final cruise of the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal in 1978, the crew held a mock funeral in which the wardroom piano was lauched from the bow catapult and buried at sea. The piano hit 104 knots as it went over the end of the flight deck".

"My journey began far from any laboratory. I grew up in Amman, Jordan, in a refugee family of ten children, in a home with no running water and no electricity, sharing our space with livestock, our family’s livelihood. Hardship was everywhere. My chances for success were slim—except for the surprising ways nature reveals itself and helps us overcome.
My turning point came at the age of ten, when I discovered drawings of molecules in my school library. Their beauty and mystery captivated me, and when I learned that they are the building blocks of everything, living and non-living, they ignited my passion for chemistry, and I was hooked forever. It became my escape and my direction."
In his Nobel Prize banquet speech, chemistry laureate Omar Yaghi spoke about his journey to becoming a scientist and laureate.

It was a thoroughly engaging set of presentations of viewpoints and insights to fuel the theological digestion of those gathered! I greatly appreciated both the conversations, and the renewing and making of new connections with those attending. Thank you for organising this event
