Aaron Fischer - My Review

Movie 🎥 & TV 📺 critic. DC Comics fanatic. A straight shooter telling it like it is. All opinions are my own.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

TO BE CLEAR....I am a DC fan FIRST.

That has nothing to do with Snyder. That had nothing to do with James Gunn. It just so happens that WB has always owned the DC IP. I know what I like and what I don't about film, entertainment & DC.

It just so happens Snyder, Nolan and the writers of the first 4 years of the DCEU wrote some incredible stories and brought DC characters to life. They took it seriously.

The studio had other plans and backstabbed all of those fans of that universe and those stories and brought Gunn in to take control of DC.

Gunn is for 15 year olds. He writes like a degenerate and it shows in everything he does. He completely disrespects DC characters.

I will never be HAPPY about that and I don't have to accept it.

I will still cover DC moving forward. That bothers some. TOO BAD!! I don't just stop because I don't like the content. You don't like it then move on.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

@DobieRae @davidellison @Skydance I sure hope so.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

It is very clear that DC Studios has a leadership problem that needs to be fixed.

@DCFilmNews No, they didn’t. That is a small number of tickets sold and it needs to do 2.5 times that to profit. It’s another DCU failure.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

@MehtlyBen11 @louligacigars And it has to double all of that before a profit.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

This does put things into perspective. There is a good chance it MIGHT make a little bit of money bully the end of its run. BUT, the audience is soooooooo small. That isn’t how you make successful franchise. Everyone said the interest was back. It clearly is not.

Clayface opened to just $43M globally.

For context against other lower tier CBM debuts:
The Marvels: $106M
Morbius: $84M (during pandemic)
Supergirl: $68M

Getting doubled up by Morbius on opening weekend is wild 😭

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

Where are the DCU fans & why are they not supporting the DCU shows and films?

They claim to be the majority and even threaten those who don’t like the DCU.

They are all talk and NO SHOW!!

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

DC is so back!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

[Variety @Variety]

“Clayface” arrived on the lower end of the studio’s expectations of $25 million to $35 million.

The antihero adaptation earned another $19 million overseas for a global tally of $43 million.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

Yep.

[Exhibitor Relations Co. @ERCboxoffice]

The budget isn’t really a point worth defending in regards to CLAYFACE.

Listen, even MORBIUS debuted with $39M. CLAYFACE, which is drawn from one of the biggest IP brands in the world, dropped with $15M less than Sony's horror spinoff.

A lower budget may limit the financial damage, but in no way does it create audience demand. And that's the point. Choosing CLAYFACE as the DCU’s third film was the misstep. Oh, and making 3 out of 4 set in the SUPERMAN universe. Yes, the DC brand is in trouble. What's new?

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

THIS!!

[Byron Lafayette @ByronLafayette]

The saddest thing about CLAYFACE is that it shows the depths to which DC has fallen. Ten years ago, S*icide Squad, a Batman villain-centered film, opened to $133m and went on to a $750m worldwide total. Now, a decade later, DC is struggling to open a Batman villain-centered DC film past $25m, and that 25m is being praised and treated as a monumental victory, instead of the sad truth it is.

The second sad element is that the film has only found an audience by hiding that it's a comic book movie, embracing horror, and courting horror fans, not DC fans. DC is in such bad shape that it can't even open a movie anymore; let that sink in. They had to bring in a ringer audience for this film to not fall on its face.

This result is an example of how a studio can have it all: a popular franchise and IP with hordes of fans who run out opening weekend for anything with the brand on it, but poor leadership and meddling led to a cascade of poor decisions that alienated worldwide audiences from DC.

We may just be in the apocalypse of DC, the end of days, a lone wasteland with only Batman standing to hold the torch for a world long gone.

#Clayface REVIEW
- I really enjoyed the premises of this movie. My main issue is that it felt like 2 different movie scripts splashed into one. There were things Matt Hagen would do that just didn’t make any sense for me. Sad because the potential was really there. Ontop of it also feeling SUPER out of place in the DCU. Would’ve worked a lot better with Batman involved in the way Batman and Riddler movie worked.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

Yep.

So CLAYFACE did just $4.3M overseas this Friday in 76 markets.

Safe to say James Gunn has successfully destroyed the DC goodwill in international markets.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

@evercaderetro I really hope you rerelease some of those older cartridges. I just discovered you as a company and love what you do. But some of those cartridges are too expensive or unavailable.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

@PattyC8ke_ The score doesn’t matter. It’s tickets sold and there are a ton of empty theatres. And it’s very close to Halloween.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

This is really happening. #ClayfaceMovie

This is thanks to the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. They have destroyed the brand.

[SEBA @ItzJustSebaa]

I can’t remember the last time I went to a premier showing for a comic book movie and I was the only one in there. It’s was pretty weird ngl #Clayface

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

@ItzJustSebaa Wow. There were 4 total in my theatre. My wife and I and 2 others. Crazy stuff.

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

@UsUnitedZSJL You have me very curious!

[Aaron Fischer - My Review @ReviewFischer]

This is the reality of the #ClayfaceMovie

[MoviesThatMaher @MoviesThatMaher]

My theater for #Clayface Looks pretty empty for a 8pm showing 👀

I have two tickets purchased so I’m excited but damn.
