@BretVDB Bloom's view is unpopular, boo hoo. He was still a great thinker and critic. Having an opinion outside of public acceptance is the hallmark of an original thinker.
@PhilWMagness If by similarities, you mean Soviet brand Marxism, then I think there obviously are connections.
Marx and Engels also did brandish the knife of authority at times. Engels said that even in a socialist society, someone needed to make sure people still went to work on time.
@mcgillmd921 Speed readers somehow think that reading faster is better.
In my experience, reading faster means I retain less (even when I take notes). Letting the content stew in my brain is much better.
@aufgehenderRest I know a lot of people who came to love philosophy when they were out of college. That's when you know that you have real love for learning.
@PhilosopherJoeC It can be reliable, but science has no special epistemic privilege. Its only virtue is that it is a self-correcting enterprise (like what Sellars says).
@JoshuaLWatson What happens is that they get modified beyond recognition if faced against a very tough criticism.
And the questions which are asked do shift and change over time.
I think AI is going to force people to find another way of reinventing themselves in the face of something that can also do tasks previously not doable aside from human hands.
And yes, creativity, I think, goes hand-in-hand with reinvention.
๐ฏ LLMs are very useful, but they are completely data-based and data is by definition only ever about the past. To write something new, you have to go beyond, and on your own.
There are a number of important economics citations out there that do not exist. As in, people cite them, it is standard to cite them, referees may ask you to cite them, and the underlying paper does not exist anywhere and never has.

@aufgehenderRest I think there are a lot of stereotypes about these figures, but anyone who sits down and engages with the texts will know that this is exactly the kind of stereotypes and thinking they are against.
