Hamida, a 22-year-old, fled to a camp in Bangladesh, after being gang-raped by Arakan Army soldiers, who also killed her husband. Report highlights ongoing atrocities, including mass murder, bombings & village burnings. On August 5, around 200 people were killed in drone attacks as they tried to flee Maungdaw. Survivors like Abdul Bashar recount the horror of witnessing their loved ones being brutally killed.

CNN has reported that a Rohingya woman was gang-raped by soldiers from the Arakan Army (AA) while her husband was forced to watch and was later slaughtered.

I know these kinds of incidents happened in Buthidaung, where an AA officer raped several young Rohingya girls.

Once the internet and mobile networks are available in Buthidaung, you will hear many horrific stories, including the massacre of 600 Rohingya -- among them babies, children, women, and the elderly -- in Htan Shauk Khan village, locally known as Hoinya Siri on May 2, 2024. There are many more stories yet to be heard.

Hamida – who asked to only use her first name for fear of reprisals – says seven Arakan Army soldiers gang-raped her during the attack in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state in late July.

“I screamed, so they closed my mouth with their hands,” she says. “They raped me. They beat me with their guns. They kicked me. Still, I can’t move (without) pain.”

During the attack, she says her husband heard her screams and ran into their hut to save her – but he was pinned down and forced to watch.

“They slaughtered my husband after they raped me,” she says. “Four Arakan Army soldiers were holding him down tightly, and one slaughtered him with a big sharp knife.”
