@Saturntjk But then many Tats also became turkified in that region (Qazvin, Zanjan, etc , provinces). Tati is the closest direct modern remnant of Old Azerbaijani. So, it's entirely possible few generations back they were Tats.
@Saturntjk Though he's from Qazvin, the main cultural heartland of the Iranian Tats, he's not a Tati speaker. He's a Turkified Old Azeri (northwest Iranian language) speaker, the historical descendants of the Medians, who became turkified from 11th century onwards.
