I’ve tried to write this about 30 times… here goes.

What’s good: this guy had the courage to stand up and fight. He put others before himself. He had the tools on him to do something. He had trained to a degree.

What’s bad: his courageous effort wasn’t effective. (Edit: wasn’t effective in stopping the threat immediately, to be clear. Positive effect was still had in disrupting him)

What can we learn?:
- Training is good, but not all training is created equal.
- At the end of the day effectiveness is the final judge
- You can never train too hard. Always push for better.
- Having the courage to fight comes first, having the skill to match that courage is equally important.

I don’t want anyone to take this as disparagement of this gent. He did his best in a terrible scenario, and had a ton of courage. He undoubtedly still had some kind of positive impact on the scenario, and probably saved some lives.

Franco failed to secure a proper succession, but he was facing near-impossible odds. This is the only critique one can really have of him on this matter. @xctlot I think we don’t see patents for other reasons: even if you successfully patent a training technique, proving even a US based competitor infringed sounds really hard when the shipped product is inference outputs.
