Rewind to August's Edinburgh Art Festival @edartfest 🌀 and our roundtable with Brigitte Baptiste, a well of knowledge on transecologies.
We played world-building games + spoke about biodiverse communities + recorded each other's ideas in drawing exercises.
Last Sunday 🍃 Zoe Lorimer initiated the first Dòigh Nàdair workshop at Palm House in Edinburgh, exploring with a group of POC artists their current and future connections to nature.
We moved through rain and shine, new connections and reintroductions in one moving afternoon.
Katucha says "I am inspired in samba and quilombo communities to disrupt essentialist ideas about how we exist as Black humans … from a Black Feminist, Queer and Decolonial lens, I am grounded by poetry and love as radical tools of transformation".
Introducing our Dòigh Nàdair residents 🐋
Rhubaba is excited to host Katucha Bento and Shona Inatimi for the next 8 months to explore their artistic practices in relation to the needs of the Scottish landscape and climate change in our local and global communities 🪲
Shona says of her work "My practice is about creating compassionate spaces through portraiture, visual-story-telling and interacting with nature. I aim to build a community where we hold up women/femmes who are marginalised and amplify their stories with care and thoughtfulness”.
The first Dòigh Nàdair session will be led by Zoe Lorimer this September 🥭
Zoe's workshop will take a group of artists on a reflective writing and discussion workshop to interrogate our relationship to land and the unique experience of POC born in and moving to Scotland🌳
Tariqua Telahun is our 2nd Dòigh Nàdair facilitator ⛺︎ and will be taking participants to Ayrshire for a day of reconnecting with nature and rethinking environmental stewardship 🌿
