I think a major part of what made this scene so powerful is the fact that Ted did not have to say a word. He did not have to hold her or console her. He knew that all Alice needed was someone who was there, someone who cared, and it made all the difference.

this might just be my late-millennial showing but there was a stretch from halfway through season one to about midway through season three where this show operated on a level I don’t think any sitcom has ever matched
