RIP Denis Law, who I always considered to be the epitome of a footballer when I was growing up.
I further liked the fact he looked like Danny Kaye and always in on some private joke.
Great, great man.
And not afraid to mix it up on occasion.
Hugh McIlvanney said Denis Law was the only British footballer who would have got into Brazil's divine 1970 team.
His finishing was razor sharp, cheeky, as refined as art.
Aberdeen's greatest.
And just a lovely man who wore his greatness lightly, with a twinkle in his eye.
Of all the people to interview me over the years Johnny Walker was the one I remember the most for being so tender and understanding about not just the old workhorse ‘Cool for Cats’ but songs that have built up my solo career. His gentle voice relaxed me, God rest you sir.
On Christmas Eve, spare a thought for all Ukrainian defenders who will celebrate it in trenches, deterring the spread of russian imperialistic cancer and defending Ukrainians' right to exist. Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and their families who will never embrace their loved ones again. Think of those missing in action, wounded in action, and all the brave defenders spending this Christmas in captivity. May their courage and sacrifice inspire us all to do everything possible and impossible to advance lasting peace and justice.

After the victory, Usyk raises the saber of Hetman Mazepa. It is so symbolic. Mazepa fought for the restoration of Ukraine's independence in the struggle against the Moscow Tsar. Centuries have passed. We will be able to bring this to an end and defend our freedom from the Moscow empire.
@danroan Thanks for this article, Dan.
It’s getting to the point where a bloated 48-team WC (what’s to stop it becoming 64 next) means that perhaps only so-called Oil States can actually justify staging it!
So depressing.
