I had an excellent London Screenwriters' Festival. Here's what I took away from the event and a few tips for getting the best from a #writing event #screenwriting
Bustin' makes me feel good! Would a real-life Ghostbusters proton pack be useful for anything other than zapping ghosts? Why is the Large Hadron Collider round, and how would you put it in a backpack? My latest @TFinitive x FlashForward newsletter: https://t.co/xclhiLVTYh
@alpercagatay@londonswf Thanks man - it's been on my list for years - I finally invested in a ticket this year to motivate me to write (and finish) a couple of pilots. Now I've done that, the actual festival is a bonus!
1 day till I head for London Screenwriters Festival @londonswf with a pocketful of scripts, a shoeboxful of treatments & a head full of dreams.
Dreams, & stress. Stress, random song lyrics, & the usual low-level anxiety.
But just this weekend, mainly dreams #screenwriting
My latest newsletter: Strange Days is a hard-boiled 90s thriller riffing on surveillance, voyeurism, police brutality and mind-reading gadgets (plus Ralph Fiennes looking very sweaty). Sign up for https://t.co/bCFnzH55Go x Flashforward for more! https://t.co/VVlkto1wBy
Maybe 10 years ago I saw a demo of AR goggles that let you look at a piece of machinery & see the instruction manual in your lenses, all hands-free. The new Meta AI feature in Ray-Ban smart glasses is a step in that very clever direction (on @TFinitive) https://t.co/IFfUN374ZY
The DFE's report on AI in education shows teachers and educators are 'optimistic' about using it to shift their workload to more, y'know, actual teaching.
Although the first thing we need to teach kids is to fact-check everything AI says… More on AI #edtech at @TFinitive:
The use of AI in education is rampant - with some dangers but also amazing results. @RichKnightwell stands up in front of class to explain what's happening.

'Her' is turning 10, perfectly timed for the subject of AI taking over the world. What did Her get right and wrong about the bland and lonely future it predicted?

*Technically I'd seen every episode once I passed Paradise Towers, but that was a few weeks ago
**Well, every surviving episode, & I've probably missed an animation or two
***No shade on the TV movie, which totally counts - I just didn't get round to it tonight
610 episodes / 3 years, 10 months and 22 days later, I've now seen all of #DoctorWho.
Started from the very beginning on January 1, 2020 (a lifetime ago!) and just now finished Survival as a little #doctorwho60th treat.
Come on, Ace, we've got work to do!
I peeked into Cher's wardrobe, to see how the Clueless closet has become reality - and a useful sales tool for the modern fashion industry (as suggested by @katiecollins) My latest article for @TFinitive
A cheerful piece for you this morning, featuring @AliciaSilv's try-on wardrobe from Clueless. Is it closer to reality in 2023, wonders @RichKnightwell?

This was tough to write, but cathartic. I'm very lucky to have lived a pretty comfortable life, yet money anxiety has always haunted me - driving bad decisions, shame and resentment https://t.co/LlbjIKdt64 New article by me for @wearejunei:
@akooser Lots! How the early years still stand up, the scathing politics, the Doctor's flaws, the Colin Baker era being massively underrated - it's been great to see so much freshness in something I thought I knew
On a whim I just looked up when I first saw #DoctorWho as a child.
And it's… today.
As in, the first episode I ever saw was shown on 12 October 1988 - exactly 35 years ago to the day
(Mum didn't let me watch the first episode, she thought it was too scary - I was 8 - but I begged all week and she relented by the time pt 2 came round)
Just struck me as an oddly #timeywimey coincidence. I've spent the last 2 years streaming the entire classic series & I just hit the McCoy era - if I'd realised sooner I'd have sped up & got to Remembrance of the Daleks pt2 today, as a little pre-60th personal mini-anniversary
Oppenheimer knew he was building a weapon. In the endless pursuit of growth, who's taking responsibility for today's world-changing inventions?
