May Your law revive my soul; may Your testimony make me wise; may Your precepts rejoice my heart; and may Your commandments enlighten my eyes. (see Ps. 19:7-8)
If Paul sent Timothy “to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you ...”(1 Thess. 3:5 NAS), what would he find? — Time for serious introspection and application.
Christians, there’s a good reason not to wear a “mask”: “We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness.” (1 Thess. 2:4-5, NIV)
St. Paul (not the city) has a message for you today: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). Dwell on that for awhile.
“Sing praise to the Lord, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime” (Ps 30:4-5). Sing ... give thanks ... enjoy His favor for a lifetime.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?” In our times of darkness and dread, God is our defense. “Be strong and let your heart take courage” (27:14).
Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble His way. (Ps. 25:8-9). May others find justice through our humility. Teach us, Lord.
And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” (Ex. 3:3) “Curiosity killed the cat,” they say. But God honors and rewards spiritual curiosity. How spiritually curious are *you*?
“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.” (1 Chron. 16:25-26). May this guide your worship today.
Yes, the earth has changed. But, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change ...” (Ps. 46:1-2 NAS).
Is your prayer that of Solomon? Give Your servant an understanding heart ... to discern between good and evil.” Solomon most wanted “discernment to understand justice.” (1Kings 3:9-11) What is your prayer for yourself?
St. Paul is speaking to us, not just 1st-century Christians: Philippians 2:15 “... Prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation....”
“Let [God] weigh me with accurate scales, And let God know my integrity” (Job 31:6). When your integrity is questioned, only be alarmed if God not the one with the scales.
Read Job 28 for an amazing description of man’s discoveries of earth’s treasures. But where can wisdom be found? “To man [God] said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.’” Job 28.28
