'Terrorism is not - no matter what is included under its name - a fiction..Terror & counterterror are in fact two sides of the same reality, a relation w/out desire..Both strike the law & rights at their very roots.' (@AchilleMbembe, 2019: 33)
Welcome to #CRM5400 Terrorism & C-T
Just told the BBC re-aired the very first London Marathon, in 1981, earlier today … memorable for this finish-line protest by the ‘Smash the Prevention of Terrorism Act Campaign’ - “Victory to the Irish Hunger Strikers” ✊
. @RichUniTerror students now putting me to shame with their use of chilled out BACKING TRACKS to accompany verbal presentations provided via audio file. Get with the times Lecturers! 🎶😎
Is anybody talking about the fact that the #Hanau terrorist also killed his mom? And - that we have seen again and again a history of violence against women in the profiles of these kinds of shooters?
#FemSecSt
#Hanau. Can we finally take right-wing terrorism in Germany seriously? People are dying and some idiots still think that the largest threat in Germany comes from the radical left. Forget the horseshoe "theory". Oh, and the AfD remains the political arm of right-wing terrorism.
Shamima Begum pictured for the first time without her usual black burqa. The women in Roj camp have been banned from wearing them as part of the SDF's de-radicalisation efforts. In summer its something to behold seeing all the women in Little House on the Prairie-style hats
German officials say they arrested members of a far-right terrorism group, including a man who works for the police. The group was planning to attack asylum seekers, Muslims and politicians. https://t.co/Is2BhMFknh
Reading through our @MWC_Journal special issue on media and terrorism in France and I forgot there were some amazing articles here 👇🇫🇷https://t.co/B6xB5uGJN4
One of the clear implications of what Boris and Ministers are saying seems to be we are moving towards effective life-sentences for people convicted of any form of “Islamist” terror offence. And that is going to be problematic. To put it mildly.
DO WE NEED TO DEFINE 'TERRORISM'?
IF SO HOW DO WE DO IT?
(Feelings amongst the students today - each defined 'terrorism' on a sticky not OR explained why they didn't)
