When I moved from Abule Egba to an estate in Ikeja, one of my foremost intentions was to network, either within my environment or at the gym.

My former rent in Abule Egba was around ₦700,000 for a three-bedroom apartment in 2021. I moved to where I am now, paying about ₦5 million for a two-bedroom apartment.

I knew I was going to have to step up financially, but I also knew I would meet new people, individuals who could give me referrals, introduce me to opportunities, or even give me gigs.

I usually sits on my estate street every evening to enjoy the fresh breeze. One day, a young man, obviously in his 30s, honked at me and asked if I works out because he liked my physique.

Since then, whenever he was in the country, he wanted us to go to the gym together. He would even come to my house and feel completely at home while we play Nintendo Wii video games together.

About two years ago, he started having issues with the clearing agent who handled his containers whenever he imported goods from Australia. He told me about it, and I told him I had a friend I could vouch for based on his track record.

He said, "Seun, let's get the work started."

I immediately connected both of them.

My friend later cleared 10 containers for him, containing 26 cars.

They became business partners and continued working directly with each other on subsequent shipments.

Then, last year, my car's brain box was stolen.

Then on a Saturday evening, my friend who was the agent drove to my house with a Lexus RX350 2010. The car had no number plate yet thinking it was one of those cars he cleared for his client.

When I came outside, I started asking how much the car would cost because I had always been an imaginative fan of SUVs.

He smiled and surrendered the keys to me.

It feels like a Nollywood scene.

He told me he had brought the car for me.

He even transferred another ₦1 million to my account.

I asked him what I had done to deserve such a gesture.

He told me I had done a whole lot for him. The client I had connected him with had become a major business partner, and through their business relationship, he had made millions of naira and even acquired an additional house worth about ₦150 million.

I didn't invest money in his business.

I didn't give him a contract.

I simply connected two people who needed each other.

Even if all you can afford is a modest self-contained apartment in a decent, highbrow area, go for it if it gives you access to better opportunities and a better network.

Position yourself where you can grow, build genuine relationships, add value, and become useful.

I started talking to a very beautiful lady last week Thursday. Our conversation flowed so well.

Here’s something a lot of people probably don’t know about Asake:

He was actually supposed to study in the UK 🇬🇧.

His mum had raised money and even secured his passport, but he refused and chose OAU instead, where he studied Theatre Arts.

Funny enough, his theatre and dancing background later became a huge part of his music career.

If he had gone to the UK, he probably wouldn’t have met Olamide.
