@jonathanchait It is an amazing sight to see, how horribly low character people like Rufo are. They will contort to anything, no matter how stupid or horrible, to maintain their positions on the right.
@jonathanchait Indians as a whole have a far lower crime rate, are very hard working and educated, pay far more in taxes, and contribute far more in GDP per capita. They have been exemplary Americans, but nothing will ever be good enough for today's GOP because their skin is the wrong color.
@jonathanchait "...spends the night drinking beers at the kegger and wakes up in the morning and gets a 1500 on his SATs, okay?" So now the GOP is against working hard at your studies, with the fantasy that it's not necesary to learn, and be a wealthy high tech nation. Make America poor & weak.
@murphymike We should never forget that Trump and his mafia would be nothing if they did not own the Supreme Ct. They're the ones who will say no one can ever have standing to sue. And no, the few rulings against don't disprove this. Roberts boils the democracy frog slowly to diffuse backlas
@jonathanchait@mviser Of course, the Republicans on the Supreme Court will allow their party to break the law -- Sorry, no one has standing to sue, if it hurts our party! And don't give me the rare exception. Roberts boils the democracy frog slowly, 3 horrible steps forward, and 1 back to fool so many
@jonathanchait The reality is, over the last generation mainstream media bias has been strongly *in favor of the right*. The refs have allowed themselves to be worked, and the result has been horrific false equivalence (but Hillary's emails!) and a great reluctance to prominently call out lies.
@jonathanchait Also, some regulation can be in the interests of big corporations and the public both. The beef industry favors basic safety regulation so that fly by night companies, out to make a short term buck, and declare bankruptcy, or flee, if sued, don't make people afraid to buy beef.
@jonathanchait There is so much that these people's psychology prevents them from understanding, but crucial is, an ounce of prevention,.., especially preventing existential harm.
@murphymike China has an incentive, amongst many, to keep Iran going, in that the high oil prices make the EV/battery/alternative energy transition faster, so the world depends on them for critical technology and manufacturing that they dominate -- and Trump pays billions to dismantle.
@murphymike I am very pro-free trade, and China has the best EV technology in most cases, but I understand the national security catastrophe of having almost all of your manufacturing done by an adversary. But we can allow Chinese EVs, and require them to be made here, to learn from them.
@LanceSmith1100@jonathanchait You like to define democracy and freedom as corp.s can do anything, dump poisons in the water & air as much as they want, endanger the public,... That is not most people's definition. I believe in things like freedom of speech, but not freedom of anything, like assault and murder
@LanceSmith1100@jonathanchait Trump and his party are, obviously, trying to end democracy to create a brutal autocracy like in Putin's Russia or Kim's North Korea. Opposing that means supporting democracy with constitutional rights, like in The Bill of Rights, not the right of corporations to commit any harm.
@jonathanchait Trump is willing to risk humanity, if AI can make his empire, once he ends US democracy, powerful enough to rule the world. And if it kills everyone? All he ever cares about is himself, and he does not have many years left, so it's well worth that risk to him.
@jonathanchait "“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!”"
It is astonishing that a third of Americans still support this man. I hope most of these people are big enough to look in the mirror.
@murphymike First, with what's happened to the Republican party, I'm a little surprised he fired him, and I would not be that surprised if after the elections he is hired back by the party. Second, and as a Jew, how can some of these Jewish doners consider the Democrats the bigger danger.
@jonathanchait What's next, if the Republicans don't win the midterms, highway funds will be cut off in every district that voted against them? ICE will round up all registered Democrats?
