@CaseyWitt_@oaklandamerican@Buster_ESPN@AASEGOakland I don’t think people really grasp the investment for an expansion team. If NHL expansion is $2 billion and NBA expansion in $7 billion, then MLB has to be somewhere in the middle. Then, you need another billion or two for a ballpark. That doesn’t include salaries and marketing.
@oaklandamerican@CaseyWitt_@Buster_ESPN AASEG already showed their hand. They’ll flip the land for a profit. They’re already planning to sell the arena, which is the only part of their project that would make money, supposing they delete the stadium.
Had the @athletics stayed the course in Oakland, the ballpark would have already been open. It pisses me off that they used the timeline as an excuse. @plankoakland and Forge would still be open. @everettjonesbbq would be turning away business, and countless others would thrive.
You can thank @DaveKaval and John Fisher for Plank, Forge, and others closing. A ballpark would have activated the entire Jack London district. I’m not forgetting dullards like Carroll Fife and Noel Gallo, who only got in the way of progress. What an absolute shit show, Oakland!
@AdamThaSportFan I stand on not standing. Even if Oakland magically gets a new team, I don’t know if I’ll ever be the fan I once was. MLB’s incompetence ruined the game for me, quite possibly irreparably.
@eric23332@mattyglesias There’s part of me that believes they need Oakland because they need a place to push the poor, the addicted, and the homeless. When they run out of room, and effectively make Oakland more affordable, they’ll push these people into the Central Valley,
@BWH85 Exactly! Oakland has a way of putting its foot in its own mouth when it comes to business development. They lost the teams, but also lost out on a new Kaiser HQ, Uber HQ, and more. Oakland should be the epicenter of Bay Area commerce yet it sits in squalor.
@NickKnox8@mikebtrippin That’s a fair question. Oakland stopped trying as a city after 1977. As much as I blame the owners, I’m starting to open my eyes to the absolute mismanagement and corruption in Oakland.
@WWE Friday night SmackDown will be at the Oakland Arena on July 24. It sure would be a shame if folks brought anti-John Fisher & A’s signs to a nationally televised show where they encourage signage. #fjf
