The Iron Man by Ted Hughes stands out. As do the William books of Richmal Crompton. For the past few years (since about 2012), the Newbery winners have demonstrated that we’re living in a golden age of American children’s fiction. Moon Over Manifest is a classic.

@localnotail @WhistleblowingT Confusing headline. I read "booed" in the passive and "visiting" as a verb. Then I realised it was probably "booed" in the active voice and "visiting" as a participle adjective. Admittedly, I didn't bother clicking on the actual article.

@sammeegiles The trick to getting caps off bottles was absolutely the ONLY thing of value I learned in third form science. No one believed Mr. Riddle until we all tried it, whereupon the entire class said in unison "It's magic!"

And, yes, I still use that trick - only this morning in fact!
