@BriannaWu The MSNow, NewsMax, and podcast folks get their respective bases amped up and it becomes more about the fight than the results. Win? Lose? Who cares? Just fight! Solve that problem and the country might even become governable again.
@mcsquared34 That’s the way the world works. If everyone was given the basics (or more) without working then you’d be a fool to work. And who would produce those basics?
@BladeoftheS Gotta love the substantial group in America that see their ignorance as something to be proud of rather than something to be overcome. Like you.
@JonahDispatch It’s getting lots of attention (including from you Jonah). That’s the only thing Trump wants from his troll-posts like this one. It works for him.
@michaelevknight The laws of economics apply to workers too, ya know. Supply and demand. Find an occupation where there is a shortage of qualified people and you’ll likely make more than a living wage.
@MikeHudema You’ll get better results if you focus on practical steps that the majority will actually buy into. Your approach won’t get enough folks to support it. Do the doable or catch the next flight to Shangri-La.
@carlquintanilla@BobEUnlimited Employment and wages are subject to the laws of economics too, Carl. If purchasing power is eroding it’s because worker outputs are on balance declining in value relative to prices. This should correct itself. Eventually.
@Leonajardinho What else would you expect? Owners are entitled to maximize the value of their property. Rent controls prevent that and also, BTW, discourage new apartments from being built, restricting supply. But the DSA crowd wants more of them. Go figure.
@biggsag@PostOpinions FICA is a separate, wage-based tax that was passed with the promise that those who paid more in would get more out. It was not lumped into the income tax which funds welfare programs. I am against means-testing these programs.
@Handre Also worth noting that inflation reduces borrowing costs by eroding the value of the currency in which the loan must be repaid. If my nominal income is up 25% due to inflation and my loan principal is unchanged, I just got a deal.
@brockpierson Yep. Learned to code at college using punchcards. Fortran, COBOL, Pascal. God have mercy on your soul if you dropped a box and they scattered. Hours of work lost.
@MarcGoldwein Your rate of return looks way too high; I calculate it at around 2%. The appropriate comparison is the return you would earn if you had been allowed to keep that money in an IRA and invested it in a target-date retirement fund.
@violin4all Sorry, but we need to stop treating climate change as an impending catastrophe and start treating it as a problem to be addressed. Addressed with some urgency, yes, but also in a way that allows people to maintain their lifestyles. Else, not enough buy-in.
@RBReich@Groundwork If labor were being significantly undervalued then there would be a shortage and companies would have to bid up wages. Unless, that is, you believe that every company in America is colluding to hold down personnel costs.
@Legacy411 The Pacer had the benefit of a unique appearance for the day. Also, most thought its cheaper stablemate, the Gremlin, was even uglier. But for my money the Yugo takes the prize.
