Just seen this from Scarborough Sub Aqua Club, just up the coast from me diving around the wreck of the Longbenton which was sunk by a German submarine in 1917
As the temperatures begin to rise over this week, it is the ideal time to take a short walk in the park and enjoy a breath of fresh air. My Saturday piece for Yorkshire Bylines "A breath of fresh air: a brief history of the West Riding’s public parks" https://t.co/c9GLfTw6XO
I’m Welsh. My ancestors were here long before there was an England, let alone a Britain, so I’m always amused when someone tells me to “Be British”.
Britain has never been some ethnically frozen island. Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Huguenots, Jews, Irish, Europeans and people from across the Commonwealth have all contributed to what Britain became.
And describing desperate people seeking asylum as an “invasion” doesn’t preserve British values.
Mob rule, smashing windows and terrorising people in their homes certainly isn’t my idea of being British.
The lifestyle worth preserving is one based on tolerance, decency and the rule of law.
Dear @elonmusk ,
I’m the French candidate to the French presidency you want to « shut down for treason against France » (what does that even mean …).
France does not need lessons in patriotism from a foreign billionaire who thinks he gets to decide which European political leaders should be silenced.
Democracy is not for sale. Not even to the richest man in the world.
I’d rather be accused of defending democracy than of trying to buy it.

Cher @elonmusk,
Housing crisis timeline:
3 October 1980: Right to Buy compels local councils to sell their homes at big discounts.
1 January 1989: private tenants lose security of tenure turning homes into assets.
24 September 1996: buy-to-let mortgages convert owner occupied homes into rented
2000s: developers monetise leasehold as brownfield developments trap a generation in high cost new builds they never own
The billionaire is Stephen Schwarzman, 79, the Blackstone CEO worth more than £30 billion. His estate, Conholt Park near Andover, cost around £80 million when he bought it in 2022.
The water isn't just for an ornamental lake anymore, it's now going onto newly planted trees across the 2,500 acre grounds.
He isn't the only example either.
The Ilchester Estate in Dorset was fined nearly £28,000 this year for deliberately flouting its own abstraction licence, using the equivalent of three Olympic pools of water during the drought.
River Action's own figures also show 435 golf courses hold licences to take 192 million litres a day between them, enough to supply more than 550,000 households.
None of this has to break any law.
That's the actual scandal.
identified the turf-covered mounds as the remains of late medieval courtyard farmsteads. Rectangular enclosures once contained longhouses, barns and stockyards arranged around central yards. Following the Black Death, smaller open-field holdings were gradually consolidated into
Final salary pension schemes were damaged as much if not more by Nigella’s father‘s contribution holidays than by Gordon Brown’s changes. And we’re heading for another raid as surpluses grow.
Thank you to @coopuk for being the first retailer to confirm to me that they have taken the decision to voluntarily remove all disposable BBQs from sale for a temporary period.
Putin, Trump, Vance and Musk all want democratic Europe to be divided up into a gaggle of fascist puppet states controlled from either Washington or Moscow. They hate the EU because it stands between them and their goal.
Theirs is the force that is invading Europe, and European politicians. They and their treasonous collaborators in Europe rage about migrants and Muslims to distract from this, the real invasion of Europe.
Today I’ve written to every major UK retailer asking them to temporarily suspend the sale of disposable BBQs online and in stores while the risk of wildfires remains exceptionally high.
We have detected an intensive Russian propaganda campaign across Europe using pictures from Ceuta to sow destabilization.
There have been more than 1,500 publications on outlets identified by analysts as a pro-Russian network, led by Pravda and RT. Pravda Spanish has posted almost 300 of them. Every language edition of RT has pushed more than 25 news items on the issue.
For years, Moscow has used migration and other sensitive topics to stoke fear and destabilize European countries.
This is not about the situation itself, but about the way Russia tries to exploit any topic that can benefit its agenda. The only way to protect the public from this interference is to cut it off.
All Russian propaganda resources should be completely banned in every European country that takes its national security seriously.
What happened in Morocco-Spain borders today in Ceuta is man-made and orchestrated events. It aimed to destabilise the Spanish government. Notice how media, government and many voices in coordinated manners reacted to something that does not the reaction. At the end, all those youth will be returned in a single day.
