Do tune in to @BBCFarmingToday early tomorrow morning (05:45) to hear on our new @uclponds @Freshwaterhabs Guide to Pond Restoration, Creation & Management & our recent @norfolkponds pond restoration week. Thanks to the wonderful @HillFT https://t.co/8h20vCvLYh
This #floodawarenessweek we thought we would share footage of our beavers working hard to build dams to slow the flow. These rodents grow up to the weight of 30kg and 100cm in length and can drag anything from large branches to small trees, making them amazing engineers. 🌳
How do you restore #ponds to get massive biodiversity gain? Next week, we will restore 4 farm ponds & launch the @uclponds @Freshwaterhabs "Guide to the Restoration, Creation & Management of Ponds" (FREE at https://t.co/HoynNRZyEA). Watch this space for top pond tips all week
It's a wrap on #norfolkpondsweek 2023! We restored 3 overgrown ponds, created 1 pond & managed 6 previously restored ponds all on a mid Norfolk farm. Epic work from a team of brilliant & fun-loving volunteers. Thanks *so much* to all & to @East_England_NT #Riverlands for funding
In 1980, Mt. St. Helens erupted and this area was leveled in the blast zone.
Sometime between 1995 and 2003, #beavers moved in and got to work.
Today, it is a thriving wetland corridor.
Glad I was able to make time to check this out in person while I was here for #ESA2023!
@RunWildGB Thanks! I’ll look into using a SUP I think. Interesting about the suspended silt, I have been looking into maybe using some form of sonar myself. Early days though!
What a trip! Macrophytes course 2023 concluded yesterday. Big thanks to @eshilland, Ben Goldsmith, @drkevinwood, Iwan Jones & some fab students, including a new "macrophytes queen". We finished with the traditional cream tea!
The sites tours around Devon for #BeaverConference23 are in full swing!
@DevonWildlife / @ExeterGeography show delegates areas where beavers are living wild to see the benefits they bring & better understand management challenges they can create > & what can be done to mitigate.
🧵1/3: Britain's biggest #BeaverConference23 is complete!🎉
3 days of unforgettable insight & discussion, sharing challenges/opportunities that lie ahead of #beaver restoration.
Huge thanks to @UniofExeter@ExeterGeography@DevonWildlife & all speakers/delegates for attending!
Beavers are not R-wing or L-wing animals. They are beavers. They vanished from the UK as we killed them all. Science clearly shows big benefits of beaver habitat for species as well as hydrology. Most agree that both are in trouble. So let's just see beavers as beavers!
1/2: Ghost Ponds film coming out soon! A film by the brilliant Amanda Sosnowski has been doing well at film festivals. It gets to the heart of our work saving forgotten ponds & is short-listed for an award at @norwichfilmfest this Friday. Please watch this trailer & share ❤
