Cyndi Lauper tells The Guardian she doesn’t believe in cancel culture and doesn’t regret approving Nicki Minaj’s sample of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” over her political views:
“The fact that she did ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ musically – it’s a political thing anyway, babes. Girls just want to have fun. They’re entitled to a joyful experience in this world. Like it or not, we’re here. We’re not going out in the rice fields any more. Yes, rise up and put your foot down, and she did. I don’t know what she’s doing now. But I still don’t think you cancel people, because otherwise there’s no room for discussion. If you want people to listen to you, you need to listen to people. If you don’t let people evolve, what are you doing?”
Sooo... It's officially fall and I come with an unusually long seasonal update.
Firstly, I'd like to announce that summer & tennis have left me with horrific tan lines.
Secondly, lam back recording music.
Is that a bad idea? Maybe. Probably. Definitely.
Hip-hop’s female rap consumption is in decline, falling to 28% its lowest level since 2008.
It rose from 4% when Nicki Minaj entered the scene, reaching 67% in 2014–15 and peaking at 68% in mid-2024 before drastically falling after Nicki Minaj withdrawal from music
