This is also what I find very frustrating about people on our side who say, "training doesn't work." It absolutely has been shown to work in other countries - we're just doing it completely wrong
@jdcmedlock I think it's a causation/correlation problem. Developers often want to build housing in gentrifying areas because that's where the demand is. It's easy to see how people would look at that relationship from the outside and think "new housing causes gentrification."
There are a few countries that have done things like this lately (ish) and I feel like I don't quite get it. Presumably they want to be recognized as Turkiye *in English* to match the Turkish word, but it's just generally rare for countries' names for themselves to match others'.
I am completely against this. Shrink the cars down and do a heist in someone's bloodstream. Foil a conspiracy by driving on the bed of the ocean. Make Ms. Frizzle proud
@ZachWeiner You might appreciate learning Russian then! They aren't remotely afraid of cramming consonants together and just going at them without a vowel for miles. The word ะทะดัะฐะฒััะฒัะนัะต is transliterated "zdravstvuytye"!
@MattBruenig One of them is a payment from the government though (which we should absolutely do) and one of them is forgoing the ill-gotten gains of a nationwide predatory lending scheme. It's absurd to posit them in opposition to each other.
My favorite example of this is the MTA's "Do Not Ride The Outside of the Train" advertisements.
1.) I never thought of doing it before seeing the sign.
2.) Previously, I would have thought I would *definitely* die. The sign makes me think I *might* live!
3.) It looks super rad

@alanthefisher@angry_gift @urbofish I'm not disagreeing in principle, but this article states that there's an additional ~12% that are unoccupied and not on the market for a variety of reasons.
