The Big Bend border wall/etc. story is starting to feel just too big for our local news ecosystem. We’re exhausted and things are only amping up. If you’re a bigger TX outlet consider paying closer attention.

Great story from @ujohnnyg about some of the Big Bend area locals - people with generational ties to the region - living in the direct path of the Trump administration's planned border wall: https://t.co/DmN31bCvvG
@travisbubenik Debbie is a brilliant journalist and leader. You are 100 percent correct, Travis. And yes, I know her on a personal level as well. We went to the same high school and college.
UT Austin just axed the station manager of its beloved local NPR affiliate after disagreements over a festival the station recently hosted.
The manager was told she could resign, to which
@dhiott said, "you know, well, you'll have to fire me," per @kut@neenareports. https://t.co/b1awCD16kg
Thank you to everyone that reached out to myself and my family today. My husband and I are both safe, but this deadly tragedy was only 10 minutes away from our residence.

It’s funny, sorta: I used to be able to call up the Big Bend National Park superintendent for quick interviews on just about anything. Now the park’s facing an unprecedented border barrier plan and the National Park Service is declining to comment at all. Different times for sure
The heat is on today and Thursday across west Texas and southeast New Mexico. Highs in the upper 90s and above the century mark will be common across the area. Be sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks if you are working outdoors! #nmwx#txwx
Scott acknowledging that Big Bend's "related areas" support the region's economy is particularly notable to me - as CBP is still moving forward with a 30-foot wall that opponents worry will harm tourism in the region: https://t.co/CvbHdhLKl0
This is perhaps the most substantial commentary we've seen yet from Trump admin leadership on Big Bend area border wall plans - from a newly released letter (sent last month) to @RepLloydDoggett from @CBPCommissioner in response's to Doggett's own letter: https://t.co/RhwHP1KtLU
Important to note that CBP is still saying it will *not* build a 30-foot steel border wall in either Big Bend national or state park.
The latest plans call for a mix of other stuff - tech, vehicle barriers, roads - which you can see here: https://t.co/PYcURhTUpU
Mixup aside - this is a big deal.
It means the Trump admin will not have to abide by a wide range of federal environmental protection laws as it pursues various border security upgrades within Big Bend National Park & Big Bend Ranch State Park.
Last month, DHS waived a bunch of environmental laws for border barrier plans out here.
The waiver notice GPS coordinates showed it covering this stretch of border, as we reported at @MarfaRadio: https://t.co/vILXfqeRvn
New: Trump admin is now waiving federal environmental laws for border barrier projects through Big Bend National Park - and Big Bend Ranch State Park: https://t.co/Phy8yTAsaK
Weirdly - DHS says it actually meant to do this last month. I'll explain in a quick thread 👇
Construction on the Big Bend area border wall is set to begin within weeks, as CBP confirms the timeline and signs abound here locally of the plan moving forward.
