BREAKING: 🚨 Executives at Anthropic, OpenAI, and other AI companies are privately gaming out "day after" scenarios for a public and political revolt after a catastrophic AI event.

The scenario they anticipate is a large-scale cyberattack that shuts down financial services, internet connectivity, or even power and water.

At the same time, CrowdStrike $CRWD says a hacker from China allegedly used DeepSeek to steal data from tens of thousands of South Korean bank customers, including reported breaches at two banks, and used Claude Code to look for places to sell the stolen data.

Many AI industry insiders told Axios they believe a major event will occur in the next 6 to 12 months.

OpenAI says it runs preparedness exercises, but that the scenarios "are not treated as inevitable."

AI labs are already planning for the incident they think could turn the public against the industry.
