Neither. Aircraft impacts damaged columns and stripped fireproofing. Subsequent fires weakened the steel, floors sagged, columns buckled, and gravity drove a progressive collapse from the impact zone downward. NIST's investigation found no explosives residue, blast evidence, or signs of controlled demolition.
