PSA Halifax confirmed today that it is adding a 6th ship to shore gantry crane to be delivered in 2023. It will be capable of reaching across a ship 24 containers wide. Halifax handles the largest ships calling in Canadian Ports

Work on the terminal expansion will begin in May. HPA estimates expansions cost to run about $10M. Rail cost will run another $47.5M. Half of the rail cost will come from the Fed. Transportation Corridor Fund.

The second part of the HPA plan is to increase the rail on the terminal from 1800 meters to almost 5000 meters. It will allow complete container trains to be assembled on the dock.

PSA Hfx won a bonus for servicing MSC ships in Aug. MSC ships were diverted to Hfx from Mtl. b/c of labour dispute at the Que. port. MSC today began a new weekly Hfx service, Canex. MSC Martina at PSA Hfx today.
