@SmallerFishGAA This sounds like a lack of respect. Id presume these lads are putting in massive hours training and to not get a few little perks is a kick in the teeth.
We cannot simply speak about withdrawing from Donbas as a matter of compromise. Our withdrawal from Donbas would open up opportunities for the Russian Federation to occupy our most fortified territories without losses.
Some people say it would take a year to a year and a half to build new fortifications. But everyone forgets: first and foremost, that is a year and a half. And even if it were less, fortifications in an open field are a completely different matter from those in urban areas. They can never provide equally strong protection.
A withdrawal would give the Russian Federation room for large-scale maneuver. They could advance either toward Kharkiv or toward Dnipro, destroying our cities. And two major cities would be at risk – cities that, incidentally, generate a significant share of our GDP.
So many people have died there… The morale of our army would certainly decline. There would undoubtedly be a rift in society. The army – which would surely not support such steps – on one side, and society on the other. And division within society is precisely what Putin is aiming for.
Moreover, there are currently 200,000 people living in the territories of Donbas that we are defending. Withdrawal does not mean preserving anything. You leave, and without any guarantees, you risk losing everything. And that is a major risk.
From an interview with Rai Radio 1 (2/3).
I discussed the priorities of Ireland’s EU Presidency in the second half of this year with Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Defense of Ireland Helen McEntee. For Ukraine, it is very important that the principle of opening clusters for a country that fulfils its obligations finally starts to work.
I provided a detailed briefing on the results of my visits to countries in the Middle East and the protection system that Ukraine proposed there. We are ready to work in the same format with European partners, both on a bilateral basis and within the SAFE instrument. In all dimensions, Europe must be protected, and Ukrainian expertise can make a significant contribution to security.
I thank Ireland for all its support – military, humanitarian, and energy-related. I am personally grateful to Helen McEntee for taking part in the Bucha Summit, which took place yesterday, on the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Bucha from Russian occupiers.
Cool. @sinnfeinireland have looked at Ukraine, seen it has large, nuclear armed eastern neighbor, noted Russia's imperialist history of invasion, occupation, famine, disrespect of language & culture and quickly realised:
"No parallels here, Russia are the good guys in all this"
@ClareDalyIRL Sure you said Russia weren't going to invade and laughed at the idea a week before Russia invaded. Now your claiming to have known the solution all along 😂
Can anyone explain to me why Russia would want to attack Georgia?
Can anyone explain to me why Russia would want to attack Ukraine in Crimea?
Can anyone explain to me why Russia would want to attack Ukraine in Donbas?
Intervene in Syria to save the dictatorial regime?
Use radiological and chemical weapons in the UK?
Meddle in elections across the West and finance fringe populist far-right and far-left groups? Undermine Western institutions and security alliances?
Pour billions into mass propaganda across the world?
Start a full-scale invasion of Ukraine?
Form a global alliance of rogue dictatorial
regimes against the West?
Launch a full-scale war economy and production for a prolonged total war?
Spend decades fostering its rule on the cult of war, territorial grabs, Soviet revanchism, anti-Western hysteria, anti-democracy, hatred, totalitarian militarism, and imperialism?
Fund and arm anti-Western militant groups and mercenary armies across the world?
Be issuing nuclear threats daily, violating European airspace, and directly and overtly propagandize “an existential war with the Satanic West” to its war-exhalted population?
What is the basis for this lunatic theory?
Freaking moron.
@dlLambo Fianna Fails candidate left the race after questions from RTE panelists. That weather lady did the same. Maybe broadcasters can ask difficult questions 🤔
@kevintoconnor "Connolly" and "Heather" are what they choose to put on their posters. This changes nothing and nobody cares. Stop creating problems where there are none.
@BowesChay Not Russia's people who are the enemy. It's the regime who insist on imperialist war. I'd have no problem having a pint with an ordinary Russian.
@HavryshkoMarta Two points:
*Ukraine didn't start the war.
*War is always horrible and Ukrainians didn't want it.
So what else could they do bar defend themselves.
