I missed this yesterday, but Iโm going to explain in excruciating detail why no VC should ever give this person any money for this, because it is possibly the single dumbest thing Iโve ever heard anyone in the valley ever say & that includes Steve Ballmer. This person has no clue how restaurants work, and nobody will EVER use this, because itโs completely fucking insane ๐งต
Exactly. @tedlieu is being disingenuous here. Of course it may not be intentional - that's a straw man argument. But these companies are CLEARLY not sufficiently implementing guardrails / safeguards in their models.
If we demand criminal prosecution, then watch how fast these guardrails get implemented.
I'm not sure if you're deliberately misreading what I wrote or if you just skimmed the tweet but that's a gross misreading of what I said.
It's 100% on Zelenskyy to KNOWINGLY disregard the safety of the defectors' families by publicizing that defectors were sent to South Korea, yes.
Support Ukraine, but this was an absolutely fucked up thing for Zelenskyy to do. If you read into it, the South Korean president explicitly ASKED Zelenskyy to not reveal the transfer. And for good reason.
North Korea has a history of executing families of defectors. Now, North Korea can investigate soldiers who were deemed MIA in combat and execute families of suspected deserters.
Their blood is on Zelenskyy's hands.
my take on the corgi X dot com presence:
- corgi marketing filters for those with personal brands
- their job is much more than just X
- their X presence is a net negative for them
- we over-index on the correlation between twitter presence and company performance
There's a huge opportunity for invite-only social networks because current networks are flooded with noise or contain people who don't want to talk to each other.
Any network that isn't great (e.g. Goodreads, Yelp) can be rebuilt easily now. The 10x better product is the curation of people and information.
The internet can't just be split between broadcast networks for everyone and group chats for dozens of people. There has to be something in between.
It's the old Wealth and Prosperity Gospel shtick wrapped up in technocentrism. Back then (and in a lot of the US still tbh), wealth meant you were being rewarded for being godly and bringing about the kingdom of God.
Silicon Valley schmucks with a surface-level understanding of utilitarianism co-opted it to justify openly flouting ethics and laws to achieve greater power and wealth because "they are bringing about a utopia".
The only doom they're wringing their hands about / "saving the world from" is the doom they caused themselves.
There is *absolutely* reason to question other human consciousness (just not yours). This goes back to Descartes and probably further back.
There are really nuanced arguments to be had about what consciousness is / how we can prove it exists in beings that are not ourselves, but if this is how you go about it, then it's really clear that you're actually the one not taking the question seriously.
I stopped caring. We're going through the exact same cylce at this point with OpenClaw, Claude Cowork, Instinct, Muse, etc. They get (almost definitely artificial) hype at first, blow up on social media, show their limits, then die down.
Some people will still use it. Not nearly enough as the hype suggests though. And we'll have the next release of a new product in two months and everybody will forget about Instinct.
