All the people saying the European Cup was easier to win than the Champion’s League. To qualify you actually had to win your own league, so much harder to even compete in it. Between 2004/5 and 2024/25 seasons, Arsenal would have qualified a sum total of ZERO times #avfc

@Akbar1994304 @GeorgeW78384360 It’s not basic logic, it’s the fact that teams like Steaua Bucharest were one of the best clubs in Europe in the 80’s. Teams like Arsenal, Man U & Man C were not really in the picture. Teams feared Bucharest, not the other way around.

@kevthegooner The standard of clubs from the non ‘big leagues’ (to use your words) were of a much higher standard because they were not strip mined by the mega rich clubs like they are now. Teams like PSV, Ajax, Steaua Bucharest, were ranked in the top 20.

@Bisqwit I agree to an extent, but the knockout element made it harder - and some teams were much stronger then until the greed of the ‘big clubs’ started rolling in their CL money. Playing Ajax for example was a different level than it is now.
