At the UN General Assembly, Trump, in very casual language, talks about annihilating another country. The room stays quiet. No collective protest. No formal objection.

The US *has* kidnapped Venezuela's head of state and is in the process of looting the country's natural resources, in clear violation of international law.

The US *has* tightened its blockade on Cuba, in clear violation of international law.

Then there is, of course, the genocide in Gaza, for which the US has provided unconditional support.

After World War II, the US was one of the primary architects of a system meant to encourage global cooperation. But the US has consistently broken that system's rules to advance its imperial interests.

The system has therefore lost all its legitimacy.

Israel bombs hospitals. Israel bombs schools. Israel bombs universities. Israel kills 74,000 people in Gaza. Israel has nuclear weapons and refuses to sign the NPT. Israel refuses IAEA inspections.

And who gets sanctioned? Iran.

For what? For existing. For not bowing. For saying "no nuclear weapons" while Israel has hundreds.

"They kill, we are sanctioned."

This isn't justice. It's not even hypocrisy. Hypocrisy requires a pretense of principles. This is something more naked: the law of the bully. The strong do what they want. The weak suffer what they must. And if the weak refuse to be weak, they get punished for it.

"We are punished, those who are ill, innocent people, the poor, the least privileged in our society are the targets of these sanctions."

That's the point. That's always been the point. Sanctions aren't designed to change government behavior. They're designed to make life unbearable for ordinary people until they overthrow their own government. It's collective punishment. It's a siege. It's economic warfare.

And this is what the US seeks to do with all countries: sacrifice the population of a country to achieve illegitimate goals.

They did it to Iraq. Half a million children dead. Madeleine Albright said "we think the price is worth it."

They did it to Venezuela. They did it to Cuba. They did it to Syria. They're doing it to Iran.

They can't defeat Iran militarily. So they strangle its people.

But here's the thing: Iran has been under sanctions for 47 years. And it's still standing. Its missiles still fly. Its oil still flows to China. Its people still fill the streets. Its Supreme Leader's picture still goes up at the UN.

They can sanction. They can blockade. They can threaten. They can kill.

But they cannot make Iran bow.

That's the tragedy. For them.
