3 July, 2005: On this day, same-sex marriage became legal in Spain.
At the time, it was the third country in the world to allow it, after the Netherlands and Belgium.
The law, championed by the Socialist government of Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, gave same-sex couples full marriage rights, including adoption and inheritance, on an equal footing with heterosexual couples.
It passed despite opposition from the Catholic Church, which helped mobilise hundreds of thousands to protest, though polls at the time showed most Spaniards backed the change.

Vivian Wilson has responded to Jesse Watters' comments about bisexual women.
Taking to Threads, Wilson replied to a post about the Fox News host saying that men "don't trust" bisexual women in the wake of Milly Alcock saying she thinks her Supergirl character would "go both ways".
Watters said on the 25 June episode of his show 'The Five', “But the whole bisexual thing… guys don’t get into that. Maybe that’s cool when you’re 18, but when a girl’s bisexual, we don’t trust her. We don’t trust her. And the ones I’ve met are super weird. So to say you’re bisexual, it’s not a turn on. It’s not a turn on.”
Wilson made her thoughts on his comments very clear with her Threads post saying, “Last time I checked, bi women don’t exist to turn on Jesse Watters.”
