In May, do this
1. Go to https://t.co/GkxcaPg0I6
2. Scrape all the startups that were recently funded
3. Look them up on LinkedIn. Alternatively, you can also use google (google AI answer mode is super smart that it can directly give you the name of decision makers). For instance, if abc shows up on finsme website, you can say “who is the founder of ABC” on google
4. Once you look them up on LinkedIn, connect with them. This is where it gets more interesting. We want to connect and also mail them. How then can we get their contacts? Read on
5. Download contactout extension here https://t.co/3d2q6nsR7S and Apollo extension here https://t.co/SoI1jo5mNu
6. Write a highly converting cold email, tailoring it to their business and how your skills improve their business performance
7. Writing good cold emails is hard, particularly for newbies in freelancing and those fresh from bootcamps. I simplify how to write irresistible cold emails here https://t.co/oW41JdaAR4 (50% off for the first ten people)
8. This is a game of numbers. Send more cold emails
HOW TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT ON OUTLIER
One thing is to create an account, another thing is to pass the onboarding quest
Here's a proven step-by-step method to open an account, success rate is high when done carefully.
I started OutlierAi early February and have made over $5K+
I enjoy turning data into clarity and action, not just reports.
I’m open to collaborations, opportunities, and conversations with people who see data as a tool for real impact.
Hi Twitter fam 👋
It’s my first official post of the year, so I want to properly reintroduce myself.
My name is Rabiu Ridwan, a natural problem solver who uses data to help businesses make better decisions. I work with real, messy data to uncover insights that drive sales,
reduce losses, improve operations, and support smarter strategy.
I recently completed a sales and operational efficiency analysis that revealed revenue drivers, customer behavior patterns, and hidden gaps affecting profitability and customer experience.
This is the kind of work
First Step:
Identify 5 influential figures in your field. Who are the experts or thought leaders in your industry? Find 5 of them.
Second Step:
Optimize your profile, whether it's on Twitter, LinkedIn, or another platform. Remove any irrelevant information and ensure your profile accurately represents your expertise and interests.
Third Step:
Engage with their content by leaving valuable comments on their posts.
Aim to leave at least 10 meaningful comments per week.
Avoid promoting yourself or soliciting job opportunities; instead, focus on adding value to the conversation.
Fourth Step:
Share your projects or learning experiences publicly. Share something you've built or are currently learning about three times a week.
This could be through blog posts, social media updates, or other channels.
Fifth Step:
Consistently follow the above steps for four weeks without interruption.
By consistently engaging with influencers, sharing your work, and optimizing your profile, you'll attract more attention to your profile or portfolio.
Would you do it?

This is why you need to optimize your upwork profile. Quick summary of some of the best ways to do this 👇👇👇
Whenever a search is made, upwork looks at some of the things to show your profile for relevant search:
- title
- descriptions
- skill tags
- work experience (people fumble this)
- JSS
- Amount earned (Yes, it’s one of the top of the funnel)
- location
As a newbie without reviews on upwork, we can’t control some of the above but we can surely control our title, descriptions, work experience
Let’s talk about the title:
Don’t just throw in random words. Upwork is a search engine for clients and titles matter a lot.
Here’s what to do:
✅ Go to Upwork and search for top freelancers in your niche.
✅ Study their titles. what patterns do you notice?
✅ Do they mention specific tools (like “Figma” or “Tableau”)?
✅ Do they highlight results (e.g. “conversion-focused”, “SEO-optimized”)?
✅ Do they include roles (e.g. “landing page designer”, “email copywriter”)?
A great title often combines all three:
Often times, this includes the software or tools used in that industry, the result/feeling of your client, or the skill itself. Figma designer (software use), landing page designer (what you do), or conversion optimized designer (what your client is looking for). Combine this and you have an optimized profile
Now, match those keywords with your skill tags. You’re allowed 15 skill tags, make them count. Don’t guess. Go to the search bar on Upwork and:
- Type in your core skill
- Look at suggested searches
- Note the software/tools clients associate with that skill
- Pay attention to client results/intent keywords (e.g. "increase sales", "drive traffic")
Work Experience
You don’t have any Upwork work experience yet and that’s perfectly okay.
But what you do have is off-Upwork experience, and that’s what should be used strategically in your work experience section.
Here’s the smart approach:
Go on Upwork and search for job posts in your niche. Pay attention to the titles clients use. You’ll see patterns like:
- “Power BI Specialist Needed to Build Dashboard”
- “AI Copy Editor for Fintech Blog”
- “Product Designer Wanted for Healthcare Startup”
These job titles reflect the keywords clients are searching for, and that Upwork’s algorithm is indexing.
So instead of writing vague roles like “Freelancer” or “Self-employed”, use specific titles that match those client search terms:
❌ Don’t write: Freelancer
✅ Write: Power BI Specialist – Built automated reports for SME clients
❌ Don’t write: Data Enthusiast
✅ Write: Data Analyst – Visualized 12 months of sales data using Tableau
If you've worked with a startup or NGO before Upwork, frame it this way:
✅Product Designer – Designed user flow for mental health startup (off-Upwork project)
✅ AI Copy Editor – Edited 25+ articles for a Nigerian SaaS company (off-Upwork)
This does two things:
✅ Makes your profile more searchable
✅ Helps clients trust your experience, even if it wasn’t through Upwork
Remember, your goal is to align your experience with how clients think and search. The more relevant your profile feels to their job post, the higher your chances of being shortlisted.
