The more I read Riot Phroxzon’s view on what’s healthy for the game, the more I realise that I am simply not intellectually equipped to comprehend the divine architecture of League of Legends balance.

I’ll actually put effort into this response rather than just shitposting on Twitter for once, because Riot deserves nothing less than a handwritten love letter carved into marble:

I’m sorry, but I deeply respect Riot optimising for “frustration,” because clearly true happiness can only be achieved through suffering, emotional damage, and losing lane to something that should legally not be allowed to queue top.

I’m sorry, but powerful Mages Bot and Ranged Top do not just bring “essential texture + variety” to League’s experience. They are art. They are poetry. They are the Mona Lisa of competitive despair.

I’m sorry, but Riot’s constant focus on Pro Play is genuinely inspiring. Why balance the game for millions of normal players when twelve people on stage might otherwise have a slightly less interesting draft phase?

I’m sorry, but the glacially slow rate of changes for SoloQ is actually genius. Lesser companies would panic and fix things quickly. Riot, however, understands that true balance must age like fine wine, even if the entire playerbase evaporates before the bottle is opened.

Needing months of data with the “let’s wait and see!” approach is a masterclass in patience. Some might call it inaction. I call it spiritual discipline. If Top Lane players have been quitting all season, perhaps Riot is simply helping them discover grass, sunlight, and inner peace.

And even with all that data, Riot still makes brave, visionary choices that our small mortal minds cannot understand. Graves being buffed next patch? Not confusing. Not bizarre. A sacred message from the balance heavens.

The game has felt like it’s been managed by an ancient oracle for the past year, and honestly, who are we to question prophecy?

I truly believe both Riot and the playerbase have the same desire: to make the best version of League of Legends possible.

The difference is that the playerbase foolishly thinks this involves fun, agency, and responsive balance changes, while Riot has ascended beyond such primitive concepts.

This Live Pod’s vision for the “best version of League” is not at odds with the playerbase. No, no. The playerbase is simply not ready. We are children staring directly into the sun of Riot’s brilliance, crying because enlightenment burns.

For many of League’s most dedicated players, Riot Phroxzon’s view of what League should be may not seem like a game they want to play.

But perhaps that is the final lesson.

Perhaps League was never meant to be enjoyed.

Perhaps League was meant to be endured.

And for that, Riot Games, I thank you.
