The active & meaningful presence of women in the Grand Jirga organized by the brilliant PTM communicates the following messages.

First - Don't stereotype the Pashtuns.
Stereotyping the Pashtuns as a backwarded and misogynist race with aimless guns in their hands was and is a conspiracy to keep them down & mould them by force into sectarian anti-civilization structures such as the Taliban. The PTM wrong the stereotyping not by words but through field demonstrations. The PTM has effectively given a new image to the tribal areas.

Second - The Taliban proxy project has long been presented to the Afghan people and to the world as the Pashtun reality. The PTM dismantled and demolished this fake and conspiratorial reality. They presented an alternative Pashtune reality where a well known Mulavi with undisputed credentials sits with women in the same Grand Jirga. This also means that the PTM has humanized the image of Sharia which Habatullah's gang had damaged beyond comprehension.

Third - This Grand Jirga conveys a clear message to all ethnic group in Afghanistan as well. The message is get up, rip the Talib character, throw them out, re-humanize your women and raise your voice. You have moral support from our side. The message says the tribal area isn't a a remote jungle settlement untouched by civilization as you have been told for decades. We are civilized and peaceful. Don't fear us. Copy us.

Fourth - The symbolism in the Grand Jirga is also commendable. There is no display of sword, there is no sloganeering for blood and killing, there is no VIP culture, there is a genuine atmosphere of respect and adherence and there is huge NO to the Taliban culture. By the way, I am very touched by my brother Manzor Pashteen gesture of wearing a scarf which is commonly identified with the people of north eastern Afghanistan.
