I really enjoyed working with my group on the leadership challenge. I thought we produced a great blog post on hybrid working and I hope we inspired other students! This experience has given me more confidence to work collaboratively in future.

I learned the importance of storytelling; reframing a story and conveying a message and mobilising people. I will now use the required ingredients to tell an engaging story in my EMA and in my role at work to connect with people and mobilise them into action.

I found the link between technology and precarious leadership to be interesting. I never considered the conflicting tech uses between corporations and employees before; employees can challenge back through social media etc.

This week I learned about resistance leadership. I was surprised that this area is neglected in leadership research as it seems like it would be useful when dealing with employees in practice.

This week I learned about the tame, wicked and critical challenges, as well as place-based leadership. As a local government employee this theory will be useful for solving geographical problems. #OUB329Wk14
I learned about game theory this week, and can now recognise when leaders are aiming for positive, negative and zero sum outcomes within my organisation. However, I didnβt enjoy the sport metaphors! #OUB329Wk12
I enjoyed learning about Constructive dissent this week. I can see how instead of just being negative in a team I could use this to improve a situation or idea. #OUB329Wk11
I thought Relational approaches to leadership was really interesting. I liked that there was a focus on interaction between people instead of traditional hierarchy. I can now see this in my own organisation. #OUB329Wk10
In week 9 i was presented with 6 collaboration skills that should be employed for a collaboration to be successful. I now understand why building trust is important, although Iβm still unsure whether knowing the prompts will help. #OUB329Wk9
In week 7 I learned that I should consider the identity I have created for myself and whether other people would agree with this, or view me to have a different identity. I have started being more conscious of this and have changed some behaviours. #OUB329Wk7
In week 8 I learned that leaders need to consider both internal and external inclusion to achieve inclusion in turbulent environments. I now understand that leaders should also take note of, and respond to, what is going on in the community.#OUB329Wk8
In week 5 I have learned how to plan an interview and write a blog post. I can see interviewing skills being very helpful in a leadership role. I havenβt interviewed anyone in many years, and I wasnβt aware of the principles (Kvale) before this. #OUB329Wk5
In week 4 I learned about global culture, and its effects on leadership. I thought The Lily Pond metaphor (Schein) was a really interesting way of thinking about culture. I started to apply the three levels to my own employer.

Everything I have learned about leadership so far through studying has neglected these issues which are a reality to many. However, from this week, I can see how understanding the issues will allow leadership practices to adapt and better support employees. #OUB329Wk2
In week 2 I learned about precarity, including what it is and who it is affecting. The term was new to me, but I was obviously aware of this group of people and some of the situations they were facing. #OUB329Wk2
This week has made me consider how I would manage my own team in the future. I would aim to be more open about the impact the external turbulence the authority is facing to prepare staff better. #OUB329Wk1
In week 1 I learned about turbulence and how both internal and external turbulence can affect an organisation. It made me think about my own employer; I work for a local authority so am no stranger to external turbulence influencing the organisation.
