It was June 2022 when Eknath Shinde first went to Surat and later to Guwahati, rebelling against Uddhav Thackeray.

At the outset, there were only around 30 MLAs with Eknath Shinde. A few MLAs were stuck in Mumbai, confined by Uddhav Thackeray in a five-star hotel. Among those were strongman Uday Samant, Deepak Kesarkar, Dilip Mama Lande, and Sada Sarvankar.

Security at the hotel was handled by Sachin Ahir, who, along with the Worli boys, was not allowing anyone to enter or leave the hotel.

For 36 hours, there was zero movement.

Then Devendra Fadnavis himself stepped in. He dialed Sachin Ahir and gave him the names of the MLAs he wanted out of the hotel. Sachin Ahir, on whom Uddhav was banking, immediately obliged. Those MLAs were then transported to Guwahati by Darekar and Prasad Lad, where they were received by Sanjay Kute and one of Devendra Fadnavis' most trusted confidants (MKB) in Guwahati.

That is how Eknath Shinde achieved the two-thirds magic number.

So, Sachin Ahir joining Shiv Sena today is not a big surprise. The real surprise may come in the coming days, when another MLC - who allegedly knows everything about Uddhav Thackeray's finances, including foreign bank accounts and properties, joins the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

This MLC also knows in which African country Uddhav's CA, Nandkishor Chaturvedi, is hiding...
